What To Do When You're Not Feeling Motivated To Workout

We've all been there - suffering through long days where we're feeling tired and sluggish, and the absolute last thing we want to do is get our butts off the couch and work out. And honestly, it's totally fine to have a lazy day every once and a while. But not every day. Today I thought I would share some tips for what to do when you're feeling unmovitaved to work out!

  • Nike (Just do it) - I know this is probably the last thing you want to hear, but trust me on this one. I have never, ever, worked out and regretted it after. What I have done though, is thought about working out, not done it, and then COMPLETELY regretted it and felt guilty later. If it really seems like too daunting of a task, tell yourself you'll just go for 15 minutes, anyone can do 15 minutes right? And chances are you'll get so in the groove that you'll end up just doing a full workout anyways.
  • Take A Rest Day - I know, I know, this seems to basically contradict what I just said, but knowing your own body is so important. Start trying to learn the difference between just feeling lazy and actually feeling sick or injured.
  • Make A Journal - When in doubt, write it out (Haha, I'm basically a poet). Try making a fitness journal where you write down your moods and any workouts you did. This can help determine why you're feeling unmotivated. For example, you'll be able to identify if you're unmotivated because you had a rough day, it's that time of the month, you're coming down something, your workout buddy bailed on you, or any of the other million reasons there are. This can also be really helpful when picking out a workout to do. If you're not feeling motivated, but last time you felt like this you wrote down that you did a quick power yoga and you felt great after, you can do that workout again!
  • Get Your Workout Done Early - I'm not just advocating for this because I'm a morning person, but there have actually been studies done to show that people have significantly more resolve/willpower/motivation when they wake up. If you find that you're repeatedly feeling sluggish and unmotivated to get off the couch, try working out when you first wake up. You'll have more energy and won't get hit by the mid-afternoon slump.
  • Try One Of These - If you still think that there's no way you can do a workout, try one of these! These TV workouts are perfect, and you can binge watch all the shows you want. This yoga workout is relaxing but is also designed to help get you motivated. These exercises are all really fun and you never even have to leave your couch.

Hopefully this guide helps you through some days where the last thing you want to do is workout. Share any other tips down in the comments - I'd love to hear them (and I'm sure others would too!).

XOXO,

Samantha
