Winter Clothes Storage

It’s SPRING! Definitely one of my favorite seasons; I’m in love with the colors, the longer days, the atmosphere, and obviously shorter clothes! In my mind it’s officially time to say goodbye to all those bulky sweaters and jackets. But where to store them? I have struggled with this for a long time because they can take up a lot of space when left out but I don’t just want them bunched up and shoved in the back of my closet. So today I have a few of my space-efficient ideas to help store some of my winter clothes

  • Before you start, clean everything. Stains left in jackets or boots will set over the summer and will be much harder if not impossible to get out next year. Also make sure all the zippers and buttons are done up and everything is out of the pockets to avoid messing up your garments.

  • Sort your winter clothes by kind. I like to have piles for sweaters, boots, nice coats, puffy/foldable jackets, accessories, and miscellaneous. This will help you organize all your things and do a small inventory of what you have before you put it away.

  • Start with your nice coats, these MUST be hung. Place all of these in a airy garment bag and hang them in the back of your closet.

  • I recommend getting large under the bed storage boxes as a base where you can put other things.

  • Boots should be cleaned, legs stuffed with magazines or paper, and then stored upright. If it is impossible to store them standing, I recommend buying boot boxes and then fitting them into the larger under the bed storage to save space and make them easier to find.

  • Puffy down jackets can be folded and placed in a box that can go inside the under the bed box.

  • Sweaters should be folded and placed inside a box with tissue paper in between each one. This will help protect your sweaters from each other. Again, putting these boxes inside a larger box will help save space.

  • Accessories such as gloves, hats, and ski socks should all be washed and then placed in another box.

  • Attempting to fit all these boxes in a few large underbed storage boxes can be a bit like playing a game of tetris but eventually you’ll realize how you need to lay out these boxes to make them all fit. By keeping all these boxes in larger boxes it will be much easier to take everything back out again when you need it later.

  • If you have more closet space than under the bed storage space, I recommend buying boxes like these and then following the steps above to organize your clothes!

So these are my ideas to help organize and store your winter clothes! Share any additional ideas or comments down below and I’ll be sure to get back to you!
