How to get a Better Night Sleep

Sleep is so important. It’s a time when your body can repair itself, heal, and is super important for your emotional well being. Not getting enough sleep can lead to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, stroke and not to mention stress. But so many people suffer from not getting enough sleep. While there are pills and doctors you can take and see, today I thought I would put together a list of simple ways to help you get a better night sleep.

  • Keep your room cold - Studies have shown the temperature in your room have direct links to how well you sleep. Try keeping your room between 68-72 degrees for the best night sleep.
  • Don’t use electronics and hour before going to bed - THis one’s hard but critical. The lights from your phone, computer, and tv can affect your nights sleep so definitely unplug before bed.
  • Try aromatherapy - Scents and aromatherapy have been shown to help people with insomnia. Lavender oil is shown to have calming effects, I have a sleep spray recipe here.
  • Regulate your sleep scheduling - Going to bed at the same time each night and waking up at the same time each morning will help you have a better night sleep.
  • Avoid napping - If you nap in the afternoon, it can make insomnia worse. Avoid napping as it can keep you from being tired at bedtime.
  • Sleep in a dark room - Sleeping in a darkroom will help you sleep later. Try blackout shades/blinds or a sleep mask.
  • Don’t go to bed before you are tired - Even if it’s past your ‘bedtime’, lying in bed freaking out about how much sleep you’ll get is not the way to go. Read, journal, draw, knit or meditate until you’re tired, and then go to bed.

Ok so these are some of the things you can try to help you get a better night sleep. Share any of your tips down below and I’ll be sure to check them out!
